It's Working Project

"Embrace who you are as a family. We are all unique. A family with two working parents is not better or worse than anyone else."

What is one piece of advice you wish you could offer your former expectant self?

Embrace who you are as a family. We are all unique. A family with two working parents is not better or worse than anyone else. Remind yourself that your choice is for the betterment of your own household and revel in the fact that you have an opportunity to be needed inside and outside of the home.

How much leave did you take, and how comfortable were you taking it?

I took only 1 month leave after having my son. As an entrepreneur I could not afford to be gone too long or I could lose my clientele. This paired with finding the right caregiving/support system for baby boy was not easy. I hired two nannies that took turns watching him while I was working. My husband also helped out when he was not working. I am blessed that my schedule is flexible and that I could sometimes plan my days around my baby.

How easy was it to put a childcare arrangement together and did it work for your family?

My son began daycare at six months and it was going great until he turned one. The facility was great with him as a baby but they did not have an adequate toddler program. I second guessed myself and let him stay there longer than I should’ve. He is now in a great daycare program part-time. My mistake with the first program is that I did not listen to my gut and I ignored my intuition.
