"Never question someone’s commitment just because life circumstances have changed."
Zack Bomsta is the CTO and Co-Founder of Owlet. This married father to two has put his first-hand knowledge of parenting young children and babies to work at this innovative baby monitor company, and he has paid it forward in his support of other team members’ commitment to family.
WHAT WAS YOUR PRIMARY MOTIVATION FOR RETURNING TO WORK OR CHANGING YOUR WORK SITUATION AFTER STARTING A FAMILY?
The night before I learned about the concept of Owlet, I experienced first-hand what parents go through with a new baby at home. I realized the importance of a product like Owlet and how much I needed to be a part of it.
WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE TO GOING BACK TO WORK AFTER STARTING A FAMILY?
Balance. The vision of Owlet is something that my family has reinforced—it is going to change the world. I know that I need to be a part of it, but finding balance between the two—work and family—was a challenge.
HAVE YOU, OR A PARTNER, PAID IT FORWARD AS A PARENT IN THE WORKPLACE? TELL US A BIT MORE.
I was actually one of the first members of the Owlet team to have a baby. At Owlet, almost to a fault, we never question someone’s commitment to Owlet just because life circumstances have changed. Dallas, who is one of our MVPs at Owlet, became a father for the first time last year. We planned ahead for months leading up to the baby’s arrival to shift expectations and workload so we could make his work schedule feasible with a new baby.
