It's Working Project

"Having children is a life long lesson of learning and teaching, something you can't really prepare for, but discover each and every day."

What is one piece of advice you wish you could offer your former expectant self?

I’m not sure there is one piece of advice I would offer my former expectant self.  Having children is a life long lesson of learning and teaching, something you can’t really prepare for, but discover each and every day.

What was your primary motivation for deciding to return (or not) to work? How early did you tell your employer?

My husband and I chose to tell our family and close friends as soon as we found out.  We waited 10 years before we considered having children, so it was very exciting to share it with them all.  I personally announced to my fans when I was seven months (and beginning to show).  I was working on Clean House on the Style Network.  It was a fun moment.  However, we have always maintained a low profile in the public eye when it comes to our girls.  We feel their privacy is important.

How much leave did you take, and how comfortable were you taking it?

Six weeks later I was back in front of the camera and loving it with my first girl!  I was blessed to have a natural home birth with both of my girls and found both birthing experiences incredible.

Who was your biggest source of support in returning to work? What was your biggest pregnancy indulgence?

My husband.  He is my best friend, partner, and an incredible father.

My indulgence? Cheesecake!
